There is a real stereotype that surrounds people who take body building seriously. That stereotype centers on the image of men and women who grow their muscles to outrageous sizes, douse themselves in oil and put on shows to illustrate their abilities to lift several hundred pounds in one go. The stereotype is not totally wrong. There are some people who really do live that kind of life. People who are professional body builders are often paid to do just what is described in the stereotype. There are, obviously, plenty of other reasons to take up body building as a hobby. The most important reason for anyone to start body building is to increase health. Body building is a great way to exercise. Learn how to breathe properly. Proper breathing is essential when you are doing body building exercises. Holding your breath is never a good idea. Your muscles need oxygen to stay healthy so you need to breathe in a lot of it during a body building workout. You are going to want your diaphragm to be the focal point of your breathing, not your lungs. If you fill your lungs with air, your chest will expand and that makes it harder for you to work on the muscles in your chest. When you breathe with the diaphragm you are able to get the correct amount of oxygen without having your chest expand. Work out all of your muscles every time you exercise. You shouldn’t focus solely on your arms, your cardiovascular system, your legs or your shoulders. All of these muscle groups are important and they need to be worked on during every exercise routine. If you want uniform progression with your muscle groups they all need attention in every workout. This could leave you feeling uneven and bad about yourself. If you truly want to be healthy you need to work everything equally. This is true even of other types of exercise. Body building is not different.

Let yourself have a moment to rest when you transition from one part of your routine to another. The best way to cause an unnecessary injury is to push yourself too hard. Letting yourself take a moment or two to rest is the best thing you can do if you want to lengthen your routine and increase your stamina. People who try to plow right through a routine usually end up dehydrated. You might even strain or pull some muscles. You might get too weak to finish the workout at all. Even the pros let themselves take some time to rest now and again!

Body building can be very rewarding. It will help you stay healthy. It keeps your body in shape. Stamina and endurance are built well with this sport.
